WhatsApp Business API Pricing in India (2026)

October 26, 2026|4 min read

If you search for what the WhatsApp Business API costs in India, you find a dozen pages with a dozen different numbers. The real source is short: Meta publishes one rate card, in rupees, and every provider builds on top of it. Here is what it says, what gets added to it, and where a flat price starts to win.

What Meta charges per message in India

Since July 2025 Meta bills per delivered message instead of per conversation, and since January 2026 it bills Indian businesses in rupees. The rate card in force since October 1, 2026 lists these prices for messages to Indian numbers:

CategoryPrice per message
Marketing₹0.8631
Utility₹0.1150
Authentication₹0.1150
Service₹0.1150
Authentication, international₹2.4971

Marketing templates are promotions and announcements. Utility templates are order updates, receipts and reminders. Authentication templates carry one-time codes. Service messages are the replies you send inside the 24-hour window after a customer writes to you. Since October 1, 2026 each business phone number gets 1,000 free service messages a month, and the rest are charged at the rate above. Replies were free until then, which is the change behind a lot of recent searches.

Utility and authentication prices drop at higher volumes, with tiers published in the same rate card.

What is added on top

The rate card is only the first layer of the bill:

  • GST. Indian businesses pay 18% on top of the message charge and on the provider's fees.
  • Your provider. Meta's price is the same everywhere, but a provider can add a markup per message, a monthly platform fee, or both. Compare the total, not the headline.
  • Verification. The official route needs a verified Meta Business account and approved message templates before you can send a first marketing message.

What a month costs

These figures use Meta's own prices plus 18% GST, with no provider markup, so they are the floor for the official route. WSAPI costs $5 per instance, which is about ₹476 at today's rate of ₹95.16 per dollar.

Messages per monthAll utilityAll marketingWSAPI
3,000₹407₹3,055$5
30,000₹4,071₹30,554$5
300,000₹40,710₹305,537$5

The break-even is easy to read from this. Against marketing templates, a flat $5 is cheaper from about 470 messages a month. Against utility templates it is cheaper from about 3,500. Below that, Meta's price per message is lower than a flat fee, and if your traffic is a few hundred order updates a month the official route is the cheaper one, before provider fees.

When flat pricing makes sense

WSAPI charges per connected WhatsApp number, not per message, and the pricing page lists every plan: $5 for one instance, $4.75 per instance for five, $4.60 per instance for twenty. There is no per-message fee and no Meta Business verification, so you can send from the first minute of the 14-day free trial. That fits a business that sends many messages from a small number of numbers, or wants a cost that does not move with volume. Our pricing comparison shows the same math in dollars for Twilio and Meta, and the Meta Cloud API alternative explains the verification and template differences.

If you need the official route, with a verified business profile and Meta-approved templates, use the rate card and budget for GST and your provider's fee. If you want to send from your own number with a flat bill, the quickstart gets the first message out in a few minutes.
